Happy Holidays My Friends!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and a happy and safe new year!  Hayden just received his letter from Santa today.  He was thrilled to see he made Santa's "good list".  He's been on the borderline quite a few times, but he made it!  Now Santa just needs to decide whether to wrap the gifts or be lazy and just put them under the tree.  Santa is tired.  I vote for just put them under the tree!

Anyway, here is an altered Christmas candle holder using Reminisce's cute Christmas papers that I made for the holidays.  My papers are starting to roll in for my CHA projects.  I will definitely be busy for the next few weeks!   However,  I have seen the "sneeks" of the papers for Graphic 45, Nikki Sivils and Pebbles, Inc.  You will not be disappointed.

Happy Holidays,

Nikki Sivils is have a Design Team Call!!

We are happy to announce that we are looking for TWO talented people to join our design team!!! If you think you could be one of them, then please show us what you can do! Is your forte' altered items, cards or layouts? We want to see them. Give us some examples of your best work. We would "love" for you to use Nikki's products, but we realize Nikki's still new to the industry - not every one is carrying her products yet. However, after CHA in January they will not be able to resist adding her products to their stores!

Ok, on with the show. Here is what we would like from you: a list of publications, design teams you are on or have been on and some examples of your work. Don't worry. We are looking for talent and for people we feel fit in with Nikki's products. You do not need to be published or on a design team.

We also realize this is the holiday season. Life can get a little hectic. Then there might be some of you hurrying to get projects done for CHA as well. Keeping that in mind, we are giving you until January 25th to get your submission to us. We will be announcing our two new design team members on January 31st. This will be a short term, as we are filling up two vacant spots. Your term will be from February to May, which is a four month term. This is when the current team's term ends as well. In May we will be posting a new call.

Send your submissions to nikkisivilsDTcall@yahoo.com with"Willie-Bee's DT Call" in the subject line!

A Cute "Sunflower Seed Container"

When my friend Robbie was in town, I took her to one of my local scrap stores.  In Austin, they only have Archievers and that's it.  It was treat for her to get to go somewhere differnt.  When we were there, we saw some  really cute papers by Reminisce.

I just fell in love with this adorable paper with the huge sunflower on it.  On the other side is a big happy squirrel.  Sadly enough, now that I am in Houston, they don't grace my yard like they did when I was up north.  I guess they don't like pine tree - no nuts.  They'd have to come inside my house to find the nuts, lol.  Therefore, alas, no squirrel lo's for me.  Anyway, I adored the sun-flower side!!

I decided to make this cute little "sunflower seed container".  I used an old Prima flower bucket as my container.  I love how it turned out.  Thank goodness I got a decent photo, because now I can eat the seeds!  Thanks for looking!!

Gift Card & Christmas Card

I did these all for the the "Keeping it Simple" blog post this week at http://pebblesinc.blogspot.com/  I used a premade box that I just had to assemble from Creative Imaginations, and cover it with paper.  The card was also super easy.  I just strips of Pebbles, Inc. Ribbon and strips of pom pom fringe to make my tree.  I then added the chip star (also from Pebbles) on top.

For the Christmas tree above, I purchase a premade form from Hobby Lobby.  I tore strip of pattern paper and dipped the edges in gesso (you could us thick white paint as well).  I just continued to glue the strips on from the bottom up, so it looked like a tree covered in snow.  Next I added Pebble's Chips to act as ornaments for tree.  It took under 30 minutes to comple and was really simple to do!

Twisted Sketches Challenge Blog Sketch Number 28

This Wednesday's Sketch Challenge is to use "frames".  The challenge should be up later on this evening.  Here is a link to play along http://www.twistedsketches.com/  Below is what the sketch looks like.  Above is my take on it!  Thanks for looking!

As you can see, I had Hayden use the ever sophisticated method of randomly picking a winner for Nikki Sivils mini Christmas album via drawing names out of a bowl.   Hayden picked Stephanie as the winner.

Nikki travels a lot doing classes.  Next time she has some left overs, I am going to ask to do another drawing.  Stay tuned!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

I say that, but I only have my tree up - not decorated.  It is funny how much smaller it looked at the grocery store.  I wanted a tall tree because we have super tall ceilings.  Well, after Brett helped me get it into the house the other night, I realized that  sucker is huge, and I don't mean "ordinary huge".  I mean "humongous"!  That tree has got to be about 5 feet in diameter.  I had to take a chair out of the room just so it would fit into the family room.  Now I have to add the lights to it.  Man, am I dreading it.  I am wondering if I even have "enough" lights to do it!  What the heck was I thinking.  I was wanting a real tree so I wouldn't have to put together my artificial tree - which I still have to put light on as well.  Regardless, I have to say the real tree does smell nice.  Well, once I get it decorated I'll post a photo of it, so you can see I'm not lying about the size of that thing!

So, today is my day to do the blog for Nikki Sivils https://www.nikkisivils.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=BLOG .  These are my Christmas items for it, but I posted work from another dt gal as well.

He,hee you can see I went a little "glitter happy" on all my stuff.  It is a good thing Yankee wasn't in his usual spot under my feet when I was making them.  If he had been, I would guess he'd be sporting a sparklier coat now.   I would definitely have the most festive cat around.

Don't forget to leave a comment on my post from Sunday, to possibly win a "North Pole Nights" mini album kit by Nikki Sivils.  You can see the post under this one.  Good luck.

Sunday, December 6, 2009

Nikki has a few kits left over after touring to various states giving classes. She had some kits left over. I asked if I could give away one on my blog. So, if you'd like the chance to win, just leave a comment here. On Wednesday, I'll pick a random winner, and Nikki will mail you a kit! Good luck!!

Here is what you get:

Here is what it looks like finished:

Using Different Patterned Papers with Pebbles, Inc.

I did this lo for one of our "Technique Tips" on the Pebbles, Inc. blog.  It was actually for this past Friday.  Since I was away for Thanksgiving, I didn't have a chance to post it until today, but the post is still up on the blog http://pebblesinc.blogspot.com/.  I had a lot of fun doing this lo,  I think I used every collection that was sent to me in my design kit from Pebbles, Inc.  You can see that they don't really "go together", but the way I've made the flower as sort of a patch-work flower it "does go together".  Check out the blog for further ideas by some of the other dt members.

Twisted Sketches Sketch No. 24 Is Up!!

I love October Afternoon's papers!!  "Report Card" is no acception!  I think this line is just precious!  For this weeks sketch we had to use "distressing" and "three photos".  The old-time feel to these papers just lend themselves to distressing, don't you think?

If you would like to play along this week, check us out at Twisted Sketches

Altered House using Nikki Sivils "North Pole Nights"

I had a devil of a time taking a photo of this! There were too many shadows, it was blurry, my tree wouldn't stand up.... I have had this done for several days now, and today was the day to finally get a decent photo! However, it was fun to make. I love these papers from Nikki's Christmas line. I especially love the little elf. Isn't he just the cutest?

A lo using Nikki Sivils "North Pole Nights"

This is my hubby "modeling" his new boots from last Christmas. If you have seen lo's of him in the past, you usually know that he always acting goofy. I guess that is one of the reasons I love him! Everything on the lo is part of the Nikki Sivils "North Pole Nights" collection - minus the goofy pics and letters. To see what other adorable products she carries, check out her website here https://www.nikkisivils.com/mm5/merchant.mvc Thanks for looking!! Have a great weekend!!

Happy Friday everyone!! It is a beautiful day here in Cypress, Texas. It is around 75 degrees, and it is November!! Ahh, that is the one thing good about being back down south. I might be shoveling snow if right now if I were up north!

Some Pebble's Inc. for ya!

I hardly ever do these clean line lo's or this size for that matter. However, I decided I would go for it. I actually love how it turned out. More so, I guess because I adore this photo of Hayden. I used Pebble's Inc. Downtown papers for this lo.

And, today is special!! E.A.D. Design's is having a big sale. Today only they are giving 35% off if you use the coupon WITCHES BREW. They are also giving away a $25 gift certificate if you leave some lovin at all of the creative team's blogs - as well as the E.A.D. Design's blog. There will be a random drawing for this, so be sure to leave those comments! You will find a list of all the girls on the right hand side of my blog.

For today's blog hop I did this cute little picture frame using some of their winter rub-ons. It is a little sad for me, because I probably will not see snow like that again for a long while. Now that we are in Texas, there is a part of me that is going to miss playing in the snow. My hubby is thrilled because it means no more shoveling for him. Still it was fun during the time we lived in Massachusetts. Anyway, happy hopping!!

My Last Hoorah...

with A Million Memories as a design team member. These are from their cute October kit. They have added three new members and four of us are moving on. I am taking leave of kit clubs for a while. Whew, they are more time consuming than working for manufacturers. I think that is where I will keep my focus for now. Well, that, and I am Hayden's home room mom this year at his school. I will still be hanging around AMM though, because the girls just rock over there. Plus Michelle always has such great items in her store. I hope you take the time to come check it out and the forums as well. Here is the link http://www.amillionmemories.com

Some "Boo-tiful" lo's

Just doing a few lo's using Nikki Sivils' "Boo-tiful" collection. I wanted to show that even if you don't celebrate Halloween, you can still use some of the papers for a beautiful lo. Also, if you are like me and don't have many scary pics, all you need to do is think outside the box. Above I used some pics of candy corn to do a lo. Actually I kind of like them (a litte too sugary though), but at this time of year I hear that song "I don't like candy corn" sung on Noggin all the time. I just had to do a lo about it. After all it is a part of my life, lol.

Twisted Sketch #18!!

Anam should have the challenge up sometime today. I wanted to post the sketch and my take on it for you. I didn't change a thing this time! I adore this sketch. Our twist was to use ribbon and two photos. I plan on using the sketch again, but using it like Anan did in her drawing. I love it with the bordered paper like that. Cute! Anyway come play along at http://www.twistedsketches.com/

I am going to let this post stand. The actual blog hop is "NEXT TUESDAY" not today, DOH!

This lo is completely devoted to these adorable rub-ons. I know I have said it before, and I must sound like a broken record. However, the main thing I love about these rub-ons is that they are "vinyl". This makes them so durable. I can put them on another sheet of paper and cut them out. They are heavy enough to keep their shape, so can use them as embellisments. Some of my favorite rub-ons from them are these cute little trees. There are ton's more cute one as well, but you know, they can't all go on the lo!

Come check out my challenge on the Pebbles blog

My challenge for you is "Getting Distressed". No, I don't want you getting distressed over your project. I just want you to "distress" that project! We've all see the style out there, and when the mood hits me, I like to add that distressed look to my pages. It is ever so easy to do. Just take something and rough up the edges of those papers, add a little ink and there you go. You have an instant distressed look. Come check out to see what some of the Pebbles design team did with my challenge at http://pebblesinc.blogspot.com/

Technique - Doodle - Doodle a border or frame or swirls on your page
Twist - find a way of sneaking in a Bird or Owl onto your page.

So Hayden has this King of Kings festival at his school, which is new this year. The past years it has been a Nursery Rhyme festival. Well, I volunteered to help make these paper mache knights. How hard could it be? I mean I paper mache'd when I was little. I don't remember being stressed out over it then.

Well, me and Angelina, another mom, blow up our baloons. We start taping on the arms, legs and plumes - pop! Several times this happened. Then it happened when we got the first layer of paper mache on them! Ok, so we finally get three done. Now let me tell you about the paper mache mix. Angelina read we would need a thicker mix for living in a humid area. Fine, it worked. It was just thicker and a little messier. Next morning those things were still not dry. Did I tell you I'm not the smartest cupcake in the batch when it comes to paper mache? I get the bright idea to put them outside so they will dry faster. Bad bad mistake. When I got home later in the day, the casualty rate had increased. Ok, so now I am in tears. I am screaming at Brett because we are leaving to go to Louisiana the next day. I have to make three new forms and still have to put about 4 layers on each. I am feeling the pressure. Well, I go to Louisiana anyway, as you can see by the lo below. Yes, it was good to get away from my "knight"mare for a few days.

When we returned home, I went to work putting those layers on three new knights. Only this one stayed perfectly formed, lol. The other two have collapsed areas, but that is just tough. Anyway, Angelina came over yesterday to help dress the knights. However, she informs me that she has no artist ability and this was all up to me. Ok, so now you tell me Angelina! She was great at holding them still for me while I dressed them, a great glue applier and foam cutter. Thank you Angelina.

Hayden is proudly displaying a knight for you, but he says it looks more like a ninja. I really don't care. All I hope is that they make it through the next two days as kids from 2 to 5 throw balls at them. After that, if these don't live, it is up to the next sucker mom to volunteer to make more next year. All I know, is I wont be there! My next knight that I see better be handsome and flesh and blood. :D

Ok, is that a scary hint for ya? Yes, you got it!! This is going to be a fiber challenge!!! I have heard that using fibers is something a lot of us just don't know how to use on a lo. I was inspired by Sherry's book for this, but I won't give you any hints about it. You'll just have to buy it!! LOL

What I want you to do is get creative!! I don't care how you use them but I want some fibers on your lo's, card or altered item!! I will give you a $20 gift certificate to any online scrapstore of your choosing if you win!!

To play along come to A Million Memories and post your lo in this thread http://www.amillionmemories.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=29484

You say "What is this?"

Ok, so I married a coonass from Bayou Pigeon, Louisiana. I have learned a lot in the last "almost" twenty years that I have been with my dear hubby Brett. Five and a half years ago we brought our sweet loving little boy into the world. Since then it has been my husband's quest to show him what life is like growing up as a good ol' Cajun boy. Brett's little brother built a camp for hunting (as you do down there in the bayou). Now to move it to your desired spot along the bayou it takes a long time. This weekend was the chosen time. It took about five hours or more to slowly move this camp down the bayou.

I wasn't expecting anything but to be bored. However, it was serene and a lot of fun. We cooked and ate and had a good ol' time. I actually had a good time, and so did Hayden. Although it had been a long day, Brett and I took Hayden back out on the bayou at night. I so wanted him to see it that way. I had only been out once at night, and I will never forget the experience. The wildlife was amazing. Well, our adventure wasn't the same in regards to the wildlife. They were nowhere to be seen. I think it was still to early in the year for this. However, there were tons of alligators. The time I went out I only saw eyes. This time we saw the whole thing. Yes, they were just babies, but still just as menacing! I would not want that four to five foot creature taking a nip at me.

So anyway, this is the camp that Uncle Brandon (aka Bro) and Uncle Jeffrey (cousin) built. We had a wonderful time - me oh my, out on the bayou....

E.A.D. Blog Hop!!

Sorry to be posting this late! At home with my five year-old throwing up. I hate when my baby is sick. I feel so helpless. :(

Anyway, I wanted to post this lo I recently did using these amazing rub-ons from E.A.D. Designs http://www.eaddesigns.com/ They are so easy to use. I used these more elegant rub-ons so you could see the variety that they have in their store. Check out the other projects that the other girls have done as well. Just look to the right, and you should see the E.A.D. Design's creative team! Thanks for looking!

A little DT work and a little play!

I rarely take the time to do Prima's Build a Page Sketch, but I just got my kit from Swirlydoo's with tons of Prima goodness inside. I just had to go ahead and do it this month. While I was up there in my scrap room, I threw this together for Graphic 45 using the Renaissance Faire collection. These two papers are my utmost favorite from that line. Thanks for looking!!

The Scrapbook Emebellishment Handbook

I recently won this fabulous book by Sherry Stevenson. Honestly, I would have purchased it anyway!! Since we are being honest here, I have to say I was skeptical that I would actually learn anything. I purchase scrap books and magazines to be inspired by the lo's, not so much by the techniques. As far as techniques go (other than mixed media), I thought I was pretty abreast of them all. How WRONG could I be. Seriously, in the first couple of pages I was seeing things that I had never thought of trying. Believe me, I have other scrappers tell how creative I am in ideas.

Not that I am an old dog when it comes to scrapping because I've only been scrapping about 2 1/2 years now. However, I am a sponge and have soaked up everything I thought I possibly could. Again, WRONG!! This book actually surprised me. Yes, the work is fabulous - as I expected. Still I didn't expect to be wowed by new ideas.

In this book Sherry and the other artists take your normal, even hum-drum scrap supplies and make them extraordinary. Is it possible? Yes, that brad, button, chipboard... can be something very special! I can't wait to try some of these cool ideas. I almost feel guilty like I would be stealing, but hey, that's why Sherry wrote the book!!

Friday, September 11, 2009

Well, I am guessing you thought I was talking to my son or husband. In this case it is the cat!!! This is a constant battle of wills between the two of us. I know he just wants to be with me, so I am always sure to give him a little kiss on the head before I pat his little rump off. I have to say this is getting to a constant annoyance. I wish he'd just get his own dang computer and leave mine alone!!
